Kitchen is one of the places where we spend most of our time at home. Cupboards are the heart of a kitchen. They help to keep a kitchen more cleaner and organised. Organizing a cupboard is a time consuming routine but it’s totally worth it. It’s also an opportunity to discover new things that you put away decades ago. Doing this routine once a month or even once in 6 months can help keep your kitchen healthy and organised.

Cleaning cupboards

DIY cleaner– Make an all purpose cleaner using 1:1 ratio of dish soap and water. Store it in a spray bottle. Get a good microfiber cloth. And get working!

First; empty your cabinets one by one. Spray the all purpose cleaner and wipe down with the microfiber cloth. If your cabinets tend to get really dirty, use a liner sheet or butter paper or just transparent cover cut into the size and tape it. I use this method for my vessels cupboard and garbage cabinet so that its easier to remove and throw away when it gets dirty.

To clean the grease off cabinet doors –

Sprinkle baking soda onto a dry cloth and scrub the cabinet. Rinse with a clean sponge, and dry the area with a clean dry towel. OR

Mix 2 tablespoons of dish soap with 2 cups of warm water and scrub the cabinet with a clean cloth, following the grain of the wood. Rinse the area clean with a sponge, and dry it with a clean towel. OR

Using vinegar, dish soap and water can also help to scrub away the grease.

Once you’re done cleaning the grease off your cabinets, make them look even better with an awesome oil finish! Polish the cabinet doors with orange, lemon, or mineral oil to give them a great looking shine!

Organising cupboards

Sort out the contents of your cupboard into spices, flours, canned items and vessels.

Check the expiry date of the products and store or toss them away.

Here is a small round up of some organisation hacks that can help to keep your kitchen clutter free. Hope these ideas will help and inspire you.

To add storage space in your cupboard, you can use an added shelf inside. They help to view all products at a glance and also add space.

For deeper shelves I place a cereal/cardboard box at the end and place the items on top of it for easy access.

Using trays to store a group of similar products like baking essentials or cleaning items can help save space and time.

Drawer dividers are great products to give an organised look for your drawers.

You can buy them on Amazon or even DIY them yourself using some cereal boxes and wrapping paper.

Plate Racks are great organizing items for kitchen. Not only can they be used to store plates, but also lids, cutting boards, trays and baking pans. You can also use them vertically to store pans and dishes. Splurge on these to keep your cabinets organised.

Magazine holders can be used to store foils and wraps by attaching it to the cabinet door. You can also use them for storing cutting boards.

Under the sink – The cabinet under the sink is mostly used for storing cleaning essentials. You can hang gloves, squegee and brushes by attaching adhesive hooks to the inner walls of the cabinet. For more storage a towel rod can be attached to hold disinfecting sprays. Line the bottom of the cabinet with a liner sheet or paper.

A towel rod and S rings can give you infinite possibilities. From hanging storage baskets to save counter space to hanging pots and lids in cupboards, they can be used in many ways.
