Banana fritters or palam puri is a south Indian famous delicacy made of ripe bananas. It is sweet and a quick to make snack for tea. Using ripe bananas is recommended to give good flavour. For this recipe, commonly used banana variety is nendram palam (ripe plantains).

For 4 persons,

Ingredients –

  • 2 large ripe bananas(nendram palam)
  • 1 cup flour  (maida)
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 5 tsp sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4th cup water

Directions –

1. Cut the ripe bananas into slanting vertical slices of 1/4th inch thickness.


2. Prepare a batter of flour, ghee, salt and sugar. Add water and stir with a whisk to avoid lumps. The batter should be smooth and a little runny enough to coat the bananas.


3. Dip the banana slices in the batter and fry in hot oil.

4. Deep fry till it gets a golden color. Serve hot with some sugar sprinkled on top.
