Tomato jam happens to be one of my must have side dishes for biryani. For a sudden jolt of sweet flavor against the spicy biryani flavor, this jam is undoubtedly the best. The bottled jams can never do justice to a biryani. So if you enjoy jams with biryani, you will love this quick and easy homemade jam which won’t take more than 10 minutes to make.

Just like tomato jam, pineapple jam too is a wonderful side dish. Both share a similar process. I will share its recipe soon.

For a bowl of jam,


  • 4 large ripe tomatoes pureed
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to liking)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 cardomoms crushed
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 5 cashews
  • 5 raisins


1. In a pan, add the pureed tomatoes. Keep on high flame till it starts boiling, then simmer.

2. Keep stirring it occasionally, until it forms a glazy sauce consistency. Add in the sugar and pinch of salt. Adjust sweetness to your liking.

3. Keep stirring till you get the desired thickness. Add in crushed cardomoms. 

4. In another small pan, heat some ghee and add in cashews and raisins. Once the cashews get a golden color and raisins puff, add them to the jam. Stir well and add a dash of ghee.

Yummy jam is ready. Serve it as a sweet side dish for biryani. Save the leftover for your bread toast!
